Replace a stick module
What replacing a stick involves, so you can choose between doing it yourself and a repair service.
Is this the right fix?
Replace the module only when drift or a short range stays after cleaning and recalibration. A new module fixes worn parts in the stick; it does not fix a damaged board.
What the job involves
- Opening the shell. It is held by hidden clips and screws; plastic pry tools avoid scratches.
- Disconnecting the battery first, then the ribbon cables.
- Removing the old module. On most controllers it is soldered to the main board at several points, which needs a temperature-controlled soldering iron and desoldering braid or a pump.
- Soldering in the new module and checking that no solder bridges neighbouring pads.
- Reassembling, with the battery connected last.
Yourself or a repair service?
