Recalibrate a PlayStation-style pad
When recalibration helps with an off-centre or short-reaching stick, and what works today.
When recalibration helps
Calibration tells the controller where each stick's centre and edges are. If the stick rest test shows the same offset every time without wobble, or the stick range test shows a stick that falls short in some directions, the calibration may be off rather than the hardware worn out.
What works today
- Many controllers set their stick centre when they turn on. Turn the controller off, leave both sticks untouched, turn it on again, then run the test.
- The system or game you play on may have its own stick calibration or dead zone settings.
- A reset (on many controllers a small button on the back, pressed with a pin) clears the pairing and some settings. You will need to pair the controller again afterwards.
Calibration in the browser
PadProof will calibrate sticks in the browser in its next phase. It will work in Chrome and Edge on a computer and will ask you to confirm twice before it writes anything to the controller.
After recalibrating
Run the stick rest and stick range tests again. If the offset returns, read Stick drift explained.
