Stick dead zone
Checks how small a stick movement registers.
What it measures
The smallest stick movement that registers. A stick with a dead zone reads exactly zero near the centre, then jumps straight to the dead zone's edge; the test takes that first reading after each rest and uses the middle value of your pushes. Most browsers never report exactly zero for a resting stick, so any dead zone found on a computer usually comes from the browser or the system, not the controller.
How to run it
Push each stick very slowly away from the centre, then let it go. Do this four times for each stick, pausing briefly between pushes.
What the result means
- Pass
Small stick movements register.
- Warn
A stick ignores small movements near the centre. Fine aiming may feel sluggish; a large dead zone is sometimes set to hide drift.
- Fail
A stick ignores a large area around the centre, so small movements never reach games.
- Skipped
A stick was not pushed three times from a still centre. Let the stick rest for a moment before each slow push.
