What it measures

Whether the d-pad registers each of its four diagonals: two neighbouring directions held at the same time. The buttons test already checks each direction on its own.

How to run it

Press each diagonal of the d-pad once: two neighbouring directions at the same time.

What the result means

• Pass

  All four diagonals register.

• Warn

  A diagonal never registered. Many d-pads make diagonals hard to hit, so press both directions firmly together and run the test again. If it still does not register, the d-pad may be worn.

• Fail

  This test never fails: a d-pad whose diagonals are hard to hit can still be healthy.

• Skipped

  A direction was never pressed, so the diagonals were not judged. Each diagonal presses its two directions, so pressing all four diagonals is enough.
